As our business continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Fire Engineer to join our expanding Fire Engineering team and help shape the future of our technical capability.

This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Fire Engineer to lead innovative engineering solutions, influence major projects and play a key role in the continued growth of an ambitious, award-winning business.

The Role

As Senior Fire Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, developing fire engineering strategies and delivering practical, compliant solutions from concept through to completion.

Working alongside our design, pre-construction and operational teams, you’ll support both live projects and future opportunities, ensuring our clients receive expert technical guidance while helping to drive excellence throughout the business.

You’ll also play an important role in mentoring colleagues, supporting business development and strengthening Miller Knight’s reputation as a leader in fire safety and engineering.

Role Responsibilities

As Senior Fire Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of fire engineering strategies across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Providing technical guidance throughout the design, construction, and project completion stages.
  • Producing and reviewing fire strategies, engineering reports, and performance-based fire safety solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999, and all relevant UK fire safety legislation and guidance.
  • Acting as the technical lead on complex, high-value, and technically challenging projects.
  • Working collaboratively with architects, developers, contractors, clients, and approval authorities.
  • Supporting business development activities, bid submissions, and technical client presentations.
  • Mentoring colleagues and sharing technical knowledge to develop wider fire engineering capability across the business.
  • Keeping up to date with industry legislation, standards, and emerging best practice.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially aware Fire Engineer who is passionate about delivering innovative, practical, and compliant fire engineering solutions.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
  • Extensive experience producing fire strategies across a wide range of building types
  • Excellent knowledge of UK fire legislation, Approved Document B, and associated fire engineering guidance.
  • Experience using software such as FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, or similar modelling packages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing abilities.
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor others.
  • A passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions that add value for clients.
