One Year On: Celebrating The Gateway Project

This month marks one year since the successful completion of our flagship £17.5m project at The Gateway in Lincoln – a scheme defined not only by its scale, but by its critical purpose in safeguarding lives.

The Gateway was a complex, high-risk fire remediation project designed to bring the building fully in line with the latest fire safety standards. At its core, this was about far more than construction. It was about protecting residents of the student accommodation, and ensuring that everyone could feel safe.

DELIVERING SAFETY WITH PRECISION

As our most technical and high-risk project to date, The Gateway required intrusive investigations, detailed fire engineering solutions, and comprehensive remediation works. Every element, from compartmentation and cavity barriers to structural interfaces and facade detailing, was approached with absolute precision and accountability.

“Throughout the works, Miller Knight demonstrated a high level of professionalism, technical competence, and commitment to safety. They worked collaboratively with the university and all stakeholders to address the identified issues effectively, ensuring the building now meets the required fire safety standards. The project has resulted in a significantly safer living environment for students, and Miller Knight’s proactive approach, clear communication, and ability to deliver under complex conditions were key to the successful outcome.”

CRAIG SMITH, ACTING DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS FUTURES, UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN

In high-rise fire remediation, it is imperative to ensure there is no margin for error. Robust quality assurance, stringent compliance management, and discipline oversight were embedded at every stage to ensure the building met the required safety standards in full.

A DEFINING PROJECT FOR MILLER KNIGHT

The successful completion of The Gateway strengthened our technical capability in regulated, high-risk environments and refined our approach to complex remediation schemes. More importantly, it allowed a previously unsafe building to be brought back into safe occupation.

One year on, The Gateway is a true legacy project for Miller Knight. It is a project that embodies what gold-standard project delivery should be. There was an unwavering commitment to compliance, collaboration, and saving lives.
